Crimson King Mythos, and Other Stories

The Origin of a Halfling
Lyle Downhill was born amidst a small group of nomadic halflings. He was 3 when he was separated from his family and was later found and rescued by the wood elf Ivellios who was a halfling enthusiast. Ivellios took Lyle to his woodland home, a city of wood elves, and trained him in archery and stealth, the latter of which came quite natural to the halfling, as did thievery which Ivellios adamantly taught against. Lyle continued to thieve, despite his teachers warnings, stealing in the night and returning the goods to their owners anonymously in the day. He would do these misdeeds just to test how well he could, never wanting to actually give anyone trouble. This hobby earned him the title “The Prestigious Pilferer”; though no one knew it was indeed the young halfling. There were suspicions however, particularly the King; he kept his eye on Lyle with distrust. This proved to be Lyle’s downfall, as he planed what he thought would be the ultimate test: stealing from the King. Needless to say Lyle was caught and banished from the general woodland area. Ivellios was distraught and disappointed, though he knew Lyle meant no harm, and tried to find a place where the young halfling could live. Lyle politely disagreed and said he’d rather wander around to see what there is to see. Lyle was around 60 when he left the woodlands and began his wanderings, and soon met a mercenary and a wizard on their way to a small town so as to rest; but that tale is for another time, so until then, ado.
